What Is A Perpetual Fallback License?
A perpetual fallback license means a specific stable release of Apprentice is yours to keep forever, even after your updates stop. You are not renting access. If your update coverage ever ends, you fall back to that release and can keep running it locally with no time limit.
What changes between license types is how long updates and support are covered, and which release your fallback points to.
Lifetime License
A lifetime license covers updates for the lifetime of Apprentice.
You get every release as it ships, for as long as Apprentice exists. Your perpetual fallback is always the latest stable release.
Yearly License
A yearly license covers updates for one year from your purchase date.
During that year you get every stable release that ships. Your perpetual fallback is the latest stable release available at the moment you buy.
When the year ends, you keep that fallback release forever. To keep receiving newer releases, renew. On renewal, your perpetual fallback advances to whatever the latest stable release is at that time.
A Worked Example
Say you buy a yearly license on 2026.06.28, and the latest stable release is v2026.06.26.
- You receive updates until
2027.06.28. - Your perpetual fallback is
v2026.06.26, yours forever. - Any stable release that ships between
2026.06.28and2027.06.28is yours during that window.
If you renew on 2027.06.28, your perpetual fallback advances from v2026.06.26 to whatever the latest stable release is on that day, and your update coverage runs for another year.
If you do not renew, you keep v2026.06.26 with no time limit. It does not stop working. You simply stop receiving releases published after your coverage ended.
